Being sold in "as found" condition...looks like it has had little use and will clean up to look like new
....MADE IN USA mid century

This is an
Atkins No 4
hammer that would have been for use in saw setting. Striking faces are extremely clean and without chips., In fact, it seems it was used very little and has original contours. It should look close to new if you clean it up correctly. The handle is thought to be original. The head is just a little loose on the handle but rehydrating the handle should remedy that. This is a beautiful all original piece that is perfect for restoration.
Info I found...."probably made about 80 years ago by the E.C. Atkins Saw Company of Indianapolis. The handle is 8 inches long and the head is 4 inches long. This hammer was used to bend the teeth on a cross-cut saw. The hammer was intended for use by a saw filer:
Hammer is used for setting teeth on crosscuts, circular and any large tooth saws.
