Ridgway Blue Bacchus pitcher with pewter lid, 11" high, circa 1840

Ridgway Blue Pitcher This is a grand antique English Staffordshire drabware pitcher made by W. Ridgway & Co. It is in the rarer and much sought after blue color and likely dates to the 1830s-40s based on the older mark with the anchor. It is highly decorated with relief molded designs of Bacchus - the Greek & Roman god of wine and revelry. The decorations include four likenesses of Bacchus going around the pear shaped pitcher with swirls of grapevines and clusters of grapes. The handle is molded in the form of Pan, including his pipes. It is topped with a pewter lid that has no damage. Inside it is very clean and the pitcher appears to have been used for display only. It has no damage! This pitcher is large! Measuring the top of Pan's head it is approximately just over 11" tall and 9" wide measuring from the handle to the spout. It is larger than most Ridgway pitchers. A very rare and incredible pitcher.
