Description
This is wonderful little salt glaze pitcher is a great example of English drabware - and it's anything but drab! The finely moulded bamboo and grapevine motif is just beautiful, and I love the twig handle. This one still has its original pewter top intact. This pitcher was made by England's Ridgway and Abingdon. The registry mark on the base dates it to February 16, 1849. It's in very good antique condition for its age, but does have a few issues worth mentioning, the most serious of which is a tight hairline that runs several inches diagonally from underneath the tip of the spout. There is also a scuff on the handle and a little cracked area where the stoneware has separated. None of these flaws is very major and the pitcher displays very nicely for its 169 years. Please take a look at our photographs.
The pitcher is 5 inches long from the edge of the handle to the tip of the spout. It stands about 7 1/2 inches tall.
