Description
These 3 semiporcelain (also known as ironstone) bowls were made by Ridgways (one of the largerStaffordshire
,
England
pottery companies). Each is marked on the back with the Ridgways back stamp of a bow and quiver symbol and "Ridgways
England
Royal Semiporcelain".
They probably date from the early 1900s as that back stamp was reportedly introduced around 1912. They are also marked with L 31 (? pattern number)
The bowls measure 9 1/2 inches in diameter and sit ~2" high. The floral center of each is a transfer print with a hand painted gold border. The inside edges are cobalt blue with both raised and gold filigree designs and the rim has a gold edge.
The bowls differ slightly. One has a cream/white background to the center print, intense gold filigree and a very pale blue glaze on the back. The other 2 have bluish backgrounds to the center print, less intense gold and darker blue backs. All have some loss of gold on the rims and center bands. None have cracks, chips or crazing, except the one with the white center which has fine crazing on the back and in the center.
